Reinstalling your cable modem:
Windows 98
USB Connection
To reinstall your USB cable modem, follow these instructions:
(NOTE: These steps may require you to remove this CD, and use your installation CD. Therefore, you may want to read all instructions or print this page, and the "USB Driver Removal" instructions before continuing.)
1. BEFORE you plug in your USB cable to your computer, insert the Motorola Surfboard USB Cable Modem CD - given to you at the time of the original installation - into your CD-ROM drive (If you have already plugged in the USB cable into both your computer and modem, click here).
2. Once you have inserted the CD, give it a moment to load (an indicator light on your CD-ROM drive will usually shut off once it is ready).
3. Plug in your USB cable to your cable modem. A few seconds after you plug it in, an "Add Hardware Wizard" should appear. If the wizard does not appear, restart your computer and try again. Your computer should eventually detect new hardware.

4. Once the "Add Hardware Wizard" is open, click, "NEXT."
5. Be sure "Search for the best driver for your device," is selected and click, "NEXT."

6. Be sure that "CD-ROM drive" is the ONLY box checked, and click, "NEXT." The computer will search for a new driver for the device.

7. If the wizard successfully locates the driver, skip to step 11.
8. If the wizard does not locate the driver, the previous window is displayed again. Select, "Specify a Location" and type the location of your CD-ROM drive (example: D:\).

9. To load the driver successfully you may need to click Browse and manually select the "NetMotCM.sys" file from the CD-ROM.
10. Click, "NEXT."
11.Select the "Updated Driver (Recommended)" and click, "Next."
(NOTE: If this window is NOT displayed, verify that the SurfBoard Cable Modem CD is properly inserted in the CD-ROM Drive. If you still cannot find the correct driver file, you may need to remove the drivers first and try again. For instructions on removing the drivers, close the wizard, and click here.

12. Once the window below is displayed, click, "NEXT."

13. If a window with the message, "Copying Files..." displays and asks for your CD-ROM drive, type your CD-ROM drive letter (example: D:) and click, "OK."
14. If a window with the message, "Please insert the disk labled "Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM.." appears, Windows 98 system files are needed to complete the installation. To install the files, insert your Windows 98 CD into the CD-ROM drive, and click, "OK."

15.Once the wizard is finished installing, restart your computer.
