Follow these instructions to properly release and renew your IP address (NOTE: Because of the many customizable options that come with Windows XP, the pictures below may vary from your personal settings):

1. On the lower left-hand side of your desktop, click "START."

2. Select "Control Panel" from the menu (For some users, it may be under the "Settings" option).

3. Once in the control panel, look in the upper left-hand corner, and click "Switch To Classic View." If your option reads, "Switch to CATEGORY View," then you are already in classic view and may proceed to step 4.

4. From the "Control Panel" menu, select, "Network Connections."

5. From your "Network Connections" menu, there should be an item titled, "Local Area Connection." Under the name, will be the connections specifications (ethernet adapter or USB modem, usually). If you do not see a "Local Area Connection," you will need to Reinstall your modem. If there is also a "Network Bridge," delete it.

6. RIGHT-CLICK on the connection, and select "Repair."

7. Once repair is complete, it will tell you the operation is a success.

8. If the operation FAILS:
- Return to Windows 98 Support
- Return to Windows ME Support
- Return to Windows 2000 Support
- Return to Windows XP Support
- Return to Apple Macintosh Support
